CLEVELAND, OH- It’s happened again. Another group accused of taking advantage of homeowners who went to them for help saving their homes.
According to reports by the Cleveland Plain Dealer and WEWS-TV 5 the Ohio Attorney General’s office has sued a Cleveland-area foreclosure rescue company. The reports claim that The Modification Group LLC charged homeowners nearly $2000, claimed they would help clients get loan modifications and repair their credit, but never made good on the promises.
“We’ve seen this before. Desperate people afraid of losing their home pay hundreds or thousands of dollars to someone who claims to work miracles,” said Mark Seifert, Executive Director of Empowering and Strengthening Ohio’s People. “But it ends up being false hope. They don’t get the help they need. The homeowner ends up further behind on their mortgage plus they’re out of thousands of dollars and valuable time that could have been spent saving their home.”
